6th
Inorganic Discussion Weekend
UNIVERSITY OF
WESTERN ONTARIO
DEPARTMENT OF
CHEMISTRY
October 19-21,
1973.
Enclosed is the program for the 6th Inorganic Discussion Weekend. The response to the IDW has been very
encouraging indeed. Over eighty chemists and geologists have registered and
twenty-eight papers were submitted. As you will note in the program, only
fourteen " short" papers could be included. Two criteria were used in
selecting papers for the program: first, only one paper was accepted from one
research group; second, papers were chosen which related to the session topics.
You will also notice that I only included one (out of four submitted) paper
from Western.
For
those who have not done so, could you please send me a cheque for the
registration fee as soon as possible, and let me know if you will be
attending the banquet. I have to finalize the banquet arrangements before
you arrive. Also, could you please let me know as soon as possible if you want
accommodation at the Holiday Inn.
Take
the Wellington St. exit off the 401 into London. The Holiday Inn is just
a few hundred yards off the 401 on the right as you approach London.
I was
not able to arrange the Labatt's tour on Friday night. The thought of 80
chemists drinking the premises dry was not appealing to them! I have arranged a
hospitality room at the Holiday Inn for both Friday and Saturday nights
beginning about 8:30 p.m.
I look
forward to seeing you on October 19.

Inorganic Discussion Weekend
UNIVERSITY OF
WESTERN ONTARIO
DEPARTMENT OF
CHEMISTRY
October 19-21,
1973.
The sixth Inorganic Discussion weekend will be held at the
Holiday Inn, London, just off the Wellington Road exit from Highway 401. As in
previous years, three technical sessions will be held on Saturday A.M. and P.M.
and Sunday A.M. The conference banquet will be held on Saturday evening (after
a bar), and for all drinking enthusiasts, I am trying to arrange a tour of
Labatts on Friday evening. If this cannot be arranged, there will be an
informal get-together at the hotel.
Attached is a registration form for the week-end, along
with an advance reservation card for the Holiday Inn. Registration fees for the
weekend are $11.00 for those attending the banquet and $5.00 for all others.
Cheques should be sent and made payable to Dr. G.M. Bancroft, Department of
Chemistry, University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario. Please send in the
advance registration card to the Holiday Inn as soon as possible. Conference
participants are responsible directly to the hotel for the cost of
accommodation, meals, bar et cetera except for the banquet, dinner, and coffee.
At least some of the drinks on Friday and Saturday evenings will be covered by
the Chemistry Department.
As was the case last year, we felt that the conference
should have three " plenary" lectures followed by discussion and
other shorter related papers. Professor A. Poe has agreed to give a keynote paper
on mechanistic studies, Professor R. Gillespie has tentatively agreed to head a
session on main group chemistry and Professor W.S. Fyfe, F.R.S., head of
Geology at U.W.O. will give a talk on inorganic geochemistry. The remaining
time in each session will then be filled by a series of short (~ 15 minutes)
papers, mostly on related topics. If your paper does not fall into the above
areas, please submit it anyway, as there will probably be room on the program.
Could you please send me titles of papers which you want
to submit at your earliest convenience.
Could you please fill out the attached form as soon as
possible, and send in the advance reservation card to the Holiday Inn.
I look forward to seeing you on October 19.
