Hermes
. This runs
only
on Microsoft Windows platforms NT, 98/95, and 3.1. If you are not running

Submission Procedure
You may wish to print this page for easy reference. To print these instructions right-click on the right frame and select PRINT.
-
Step 1
: Prepare the software
-
Go to the Hermes web site at
www.ozonesoftware.com
.
-
Click on the
IDW 2000 entry
.
-
Follow the instructions for downloading and installing the
Hermes
software package (2.1 MB) or the Conference Template (.hrm) file (58 kB) if
you already have Hermes installed on your computer.
If you load only the Conference Template (.hrm) file, you need not place it in
the same directory where Hermes is installed on your computer. When you start
Hermes, select "Add Conference" and pick the "IDW2000.hrm" file in whichever
directory was chosen for downloading.
-
Step 2
: Run Hermes and Prepare Your Abstract
-
Select "IDW2000".
-
Carefully fill out all the elements in each tabbed page. There is extensive
help available by choosing "Help" from the main menu.
-
Under "Correspondence", give your name, address, telephone, fax (optional) and
e-mail address.
-
Under "Symposium",
-
Pick a topic area from the selection listbox entitled "Preferred Topic Area"
(this will help us in scheduling oral presentations and is not meant to be
exclusive nor definitive).
-
If you are an invited speaker, please click on the appropriate radio button
and pick "Barry Lever" from the selection listbox entitled "Invited By".
-
If you are not an invited speaker, click on the "Submitted Presentation" radio
button, then click on either the "Poster Presentation" radio button or the
"Oral Presentation" radio button.
-
In the text box entitled "Special A/V Equipment", do
not
list any of the following: overhead projector, slide projector, neck
microphone, laser pointer, computer-driven projector (for Powerpoint). These
will all be available. List
only
any items not listed here and we will attempt to satisfy your needs and
contact you either way.
-
Under "Authors/Affiliations",
-
Give the family names and initials of each author in the left-hand list.
-
Give all affiliation(s) (university/company/organization and department) in
the right-hand list.
-
Click on the first author's name to highlight it, then double-click on the
corresponding affiliation. More than one affiliation may be selected for this
author. Repeat for each author.
-
Click on the radio button next to the name of the Presenting Author.
-
Under "Abstract Title", give a brief title of the presentation, using the
formatting tools provided. Give no author names or affiliations here.
-
Under "Abstract", type in the abstract to the left of the end-of-paragraph (
«) symbol. Use as many paragraphs as are appropriate. Insert graphics within
the box. (Note that on the screen and when printed, the graphics should appear
correctly, but if the abstract file is re-opened at a later date, the graphic
may appear distorted. Don't worry. We will contact you if any graphic items
need correction after you submit the abstract.)
-
Save your abstract using the "File-Save Abstract" option on the main menu.
Preferably use a descriptive name (not merely "abstract"). This will create a
file with an .abs extension and this is the file to submit. If you choose to
save it in a directory other than that hosting Hermes, remember its location.
-
Click on the "Submission" tab and read the instructions for submission of the
completed abstract.
-
You may later edit your abstract by choosing "File-Open Abstract" from the
main menu.
-
You may print your abstract on your printer to check the layout by choosing
"File-Print" from the main menu.
-
Step 3
: Submit Your Abstract
-
direct upload
As detailed at the
Hermes IDW 2000 web page
, you may submit the abstract directly by upload. Follow the instructions
carefully.
-
file transfer (FTP)
-
Step 4
: Wait to Receive an E-Mail Confirmation
Authors will be automatically advised when the abstract has been received.
Authors will also receive e-mail notification when the abstract is processed.
-

: Look for Your Entry in the Conference Programme
The programme will be assembled from received abstracts after the October 16
deadline and posted on the Conference web site.
